In March of 2008, Brenda was diagnosed with spindle cell sarcoma - primary cancer of the liver which has metastasized to the lymph nodes. In May, a 4.4 lb. tumor and 25% of her liver were removed, with the lymph nodes removed in September. In February of 2009, two more lymph nodes have shown up to have Spindle Cell Sarcoma through an MRI.
According to the National Cancer Institute, spindle cell sarcoma is a type of connective tissue cancer in which the cells are spindle-shaped when examined under a microscope. This cancer encompasses a wide range of cancers, and is very difficult to treat, as there are many different theories about what is the best treatment. These treatments range from removal through surgery to full out chemotherapy.
None of the treatments are guaranteed to work, and even the ones that have promise can only be performed at certain medical centers across the United States. In determining which treatment and place to use, many must decide based on cost. This site has been designed to take this factor out of the decision.
